Our community involvement

May 26, 2016

Build relationships within our community is an important value we embrace.

Vernon Search and Rescue attends various community events throughout the year. We attend Armstrong IPE parade, the Lumby Days parade, Vernon boat show, the Snow Show and Banff mountain Film Festival.

Search and Rescue is not only about going out and getting someone it is also prevention and education of the public to prevent such incidents.

Search for missing senior in Vernon

Mar 07, 2016

Vernon Search and Rescue was called to assist in the search for a missing elderly woman who had walked out of the care home just after midnight.

There were several complications which added to the difficulty of the search; she was suffering from dementia and her direction of travel was unclear, she was very under-dressed for the near-zero weather conditions, and it was dark and extremely foggy throughout the search area.

Winter Boat Rescue

On Saturday, January 30, 2016, Vernon Search and Rescue was called to respond to an RCMP request regarding a boater in distress, at night on Okanagan Lake. Bystanders could hear the subject calling out for help, yet were unable to reach him.

VSAR team members responded with two boats, crews, and shore search teams, quickly locating the subject moored just offshore near Kin Beach.

VSAR escorted an RCMP officer and an EMBC member to the subject, who was returned to dry land and taken to hospital to be checked out before being released.
