Ice Rescue Callout

Vernon SAR was called to respond when an individual at the north end of Swan Lake spotted a head surfacing repeatedly far out on the ice, then disappearing altogether.

A Vernon SAR technician trained in ice rescue investigated this, finding a hole in the ice surrounded by footprints... from an otter.

Thankfully, the all the emergency personnel on hand (including RCMP, Fire Rescue, and Ambulance) did not need to exercise their life-saving skills.

Kal Park - Elderly Hiker Rescue

Vernon Search and Rescue was called to assist with a hiker in distress, located in Kalamalka Lake Park, near Vernon, BC.

The hiker was experiencing physical difficulties and to walk was unable to return to the parking lot unassisted.

Vernon Search and Rescue deployed to the park, located the subject, and transported the subject and a family member to the closest road access, where the subject received attention from waiting EMBC members.

Enderby Cliffs Rescue - Hiker and Dog

In July of 2015, Vernon SAR responded to a request by the RCMP to locate and rescue a lost hiker in the area of the Enderby Cliffs, north of Vernon.

The subject's position was located from the air, and Vernon SAR team members were able to assess the situation from a bird's-eye-view. Difficult terrain did not allow for the helicopter to land, so a three-man team was inserted as close to the subject as possible, approximately 1.5 km away.
